Beta Bench

To celebrate Digital Crystal: Swarovski at the Design Museum, from 5 September until 18 November you can see a commission by Beta Tank in the glass box outside the museum that is free to view day and night. Half functional seat, half sculptural object, Beta Bench uses the blurring of the relationship between digital art and design as its starting point. Using the shape and clarity of cut crystal, the bench is comprised of 135 objects, digitally-milled from translucent Plexiglas. Eyal Burstein of Beta Tank was inspired by a court case where a digital art installation was classified as everyday electrical goods when disassembled for shipping and as a work of art when recombined in a gallery setting.

Beta Tank

Beta Tank is a conceptual product design practice based in Berlin. Founded by designer Eyal Burstein, it takes its name from the user-feedback phase in software development and the classic think tank concept. The practice’s works have been shown at MoMa, New York, Design Basel, Design Miami, Ars Electronica in Linz and the V&A Museum in London.
